Current projects

I’ve recently been exploring new clay bodies that I’ve harvested in the Nevada and Utah deserts, as well as Western Colorado. I am intrigued by the variations in surface, color, and texture that can be achieved with the additions of natural materials.

My sculptural clay work is all about exploring textures, treatments, and new techniques. I enjoy working with raw earthenware clays in ways that are anything but predictable, embracing the surprises that come with it. The unpredictability of the process is something I find exciting and integral to my practice. Even after a piece is finished, I see it as always evolving, since its surface can change over time and depending on the viewer’s perspective. I’m also diving into combining wood and clay with some new mounting methods for my tile work, which is turning out to be a challenging and thrilling new project.
